Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Ge Meiyu and Li Conglou in 1985 and published in Regional Geology of Shaanxi Province in 1989. The type section is at north of Bajiaokou in Ziyang County.

Synonym: (安坪梁组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation, 164 m in incomplete thickness, consists of interbeds of light grey thick-bedded siltstone, thin-bedded siltstone and slate.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably rests on the underlying Wujiahe Fm

Upper contact

Conformably overlain by the Wafangdian Fm. But at its type section, the upper boundary is unclear.

Regional extent

The formation, with steady lithology, is restricted in distribution and can be observed only at three localities, Bajiaokou, Wafangdian and east of Shuimogou. A rather complete sequence of 142 m in thickness can be observed at Wafangdian.

Fossils

It mainly yields graptolite zones of the Cyrtograptus sakmaricus zone, C. insectus zone, C. centrifugus zone, C. murchisoni zone and C. lundgreni zone.
